School Mental Health Specialist Program
NYC Department of Education’s Division of School Climate and Wellness have partnered with the DOHMH Office of School Mental Health to launch the School Mental Health Specialist Program (formerly School Mental Health Consultant Program). All programs in School Mental Health aim to build capacity, strengthen family and community ties, and create supportive environments. We are pleased to announce this program is now available to our IS 206 school community.
Skills Based Groups for StudentsProvide a 10-session series, Support Students Exposed to Trauma (SSET). Groups will be conducted as small group trauma intervention to reduce symptoms of child traumatic stress, anxiety, and depression due to COVID.

Parent Chats and WorkshopsRaise awareness about social and emotional learning, mental health, and trauma; provide information, resources, and help through workshops and training.
Help IS 206 school hold open and respectful spaces where parents can, “chat” about a range of topical issues including remote learning, impact of COVID-19 on mental health, and race, racism, and racial bias. |
Crisis SupportRespond on an “ad-hoc, time-limited basis” to crisis situations classified as, “building-wide events” in conjunction with other responders including the NYC DOE Borough Office, assigned staff and his/her Supervisor and other DOE personnel.
